ARTIST BIO: Zachary Wilson – Zachary Wilson is a painter and sculptor and full time daydreamer and analyst of the strangeness that surrounds us. He was born and raised in the outskirts of Binghamton, New York, but the home in his heart is a secluded cabin in the Catskill Mountains. He did not realize his artistic inclinations until his junior year of high school when he made his first sculpture that won him Best in Show at a regional high school art exhibition. Since then, he has traveled many different paths exploring the art world, in paintings, sculpture, and making stop-motion films. He graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Degree in studio art in 2014, after which he made his first major sale of a steel sculpture made for his BFA show. Zach’s paintings vary from wildlife illustrations to dark and fantastic landscapes. His sculptural work largely resembles the cold, empty exoskeletons of fantastic creatures. He indentifies with the praying mantis and derives his inspiration from science and nature as well as surrealist painters from the past and present.
