Science Cabaret presents Anne B. Clark:
Throughout history and across cultures, people have had a special fascination for crows. Real crows are even more fascinating than our myths and preconceptions, with a complex social life and trials and tribulations ranging from a fast food urban diet to the deadly West Nile virus. Anne B. Clark (Biological Sciences, Binghamton University) is a behavioral ecologist interested in how social behaviors evolve in relation to the natural habitat and the challenges organisms face. She has studied bushbabies in South Africa, parakeets in aviaries, redwinged blackbirds in marshes, and now American crows in your backyards. She also teaches courses in animal behavior and primate biology and works on projects that assist K-12 teachers, zoo personnel and academics in studying animal behavior. Science Cabaret is a free montly event held on the first Tuesday of the month. It is open free & open to the public. Doors open at 6:00 pm for those who want dinner or drinks, talk begins at 7:30. Science Cabaret was insipred by the Cafe Scientifique movement (http://www.cafescientifique.org) which started in Europe in the late 1990s and has spread rapidly. Cafes Scientifiques promote public engagement with science by eschewing a lecture format in favor of informal talks on topics of broad interest, which are used as a jumping-off point for group discussion. Sessions usually take place once a month in social venues such as pubs or cafes.
